CONTAGION
I went out to Universal to see Contagion with the GF and I wanted to see this before she brought it up but since she brought it up I assumed it was going to suck. 9/10 movies she pick usually blow. The day had already started out shitty since we went to Arch Light Hollywood to see it but they dont have matinee on weekends and I wasnt going to pay $35 to see this. My GF also went all Maury Show bc the dude that sells you your tickets had a busted comp and we couldnt pick our seats and so he gave us random ones. I didnt care but my GF looks for things to complain about. She threw a fit and we went to City Walk.
At City Walk we had AMC money so we used that and I got parking money back plus we ate some Tommy's AND there was a Kpop (Korean Pop) competition going on and I was like, "WHAT!? I MUST ENTER!" but I didnt. Had I though I would of shown up all the crazy kids trying to dance.
So CONTAGION is about a world epidemic of a Bat/Pig virus. It starts out in China, no surprise there, and it makes its way to Minnesota knocking on Matt Damon's doorstep. This movie has a pretty big cast as it follows the lives of 4 different main characters. Matt Damon's wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, is suspect zero, Jude Law is a mega blogger in San Francisco who blames this on the US government and the pharmaceutical companies, Laurence Fishburne is a CDC doctor (as is chick from Titanic) and the 4th story is following whats her face from Inception. The chick that plays Leo's dead wife.
I can honestly say that this is one of the better movies Ive seen all year. 2010-2011 have been real bad years for movies. It moves at a very well pace while being very slow bc its all dialogue. There arnt any action scenes of riots or anything. Think post apocalyptic zombie movie minus the zombies. Was the movie emotional and what not? No not really. It was just well written and directed. The characters were great but you dont get attached to any of them bc you jump story to story bc thats the theme of the movie. It just shows how the virus spread from one city to another and how everyone some how knew each other.
Its crazy to think something like this could happen. I mean do you guys remember H1N1? They make fun of it in the movie but people were freaking out when SARS happened too. In the movie it just kinda shows the collapse of humanity when people start acting all Katrina. Instead of helping they are mugging and acting like there's a black Friday sale.
Overall Id say go watch this.
RELIVING MY CHILDHOOD
Back in 2003ish Nobuo Uematsu came to Los Angeles and has a concert at the Downtown Disney Hall. It was a Final Fantasy concert. I tried to go but I heard about it to late and missed out. He did the same the following year and I AGAIN missed out. He went away and returned this year. I went out and got tix the second I heard about it and this past Friday I finally went to the concert.
It was awesome. I felt a wide range of emotions as the concert played through. The songs, along with the game play display, just created flash back after flash back. It was crazy. I was in fact reliving my youth. With every song and every sequence shown I relived that small position of my life bc I was remembering everyone and everything that was going on at the time.
My favorite video game of all time is Final Fantasy VII. I was excited when they played songs from it but disappointed that they played more XI and VIII stuff.
I was hoping to hear Aerith's Theme but did not. So here it is for you:
The weird thing is that FFVII was released in 1997. I was 10 when I first played that game. I played it every day and invested about 75hrs into it. Ive actually played it a few more times over the years and I plan on playing again after I finish my current game. No idea why but even at the age of 10 I really enjoyed orchestrated music. I would play it and go to parts of the map that played certain music and just listen to it. The stuff Nobuo did was brilliant. He took complete advantage of the CD and created great music for this and every Final Fantasy game...except I think XII. He even went back and orchestrated the stuff pre CD from FFI-VI. Even though the music sounded digital it was awesome so when I heard it orchestrated it was even better.
The concert started with FFVII Prelude:
And it ended with Final Fantasy VII One Winged Angel (Sephiroth's Theme):
Overall it was an amazing experience. I dont know if its bc Ive been looking forward to this for a decade or bc I relived so many memories. I wanted the GF to come and share this with me but she didnt want to. If you havnt noticed my GF is a bit lame.
FOOTBALL
College and Pro have officially started and I could careless for pro. I think its bullshit how they only care about money and the BCS is stupid but its what we have and it at least keeps the year interesting through out.
I grew up in LA so I grew up with out a pro team. I grew up watching USC games and college became my football. I find it far more exciting and not only do I care about my team but I care about ANYONE who can possibly effect them. Thats why college is so much more exciting. Its bc every game counts.
Even though Im a USC fan I root for EVERY team we will play until the day we play them so we can beat a higher ranked team. College football is all about style points. You think I want to beat a 2-6 ND team? Fuck no. I want to beat an 8-0 ND team.
Who will do what this year? I dont know. I was saying that SC would go 10-2 or better but man oh man do we suck. I hate Lane Kiffen. Why go for two? Dumbass.
The SEC is tough bc its ranked not ranked bc its tough.
Oregon shot itself in the foot last week and TCU is done. LETS GO BOISE ST!
I like Boise St.
SC wins the Pac12 South and Oregon the Pac12 North. ASU will rep the south tho bc were banned.
More expansion talk. TA&M is going to SEC assuming Baylor stops acting like a bitch but they know they wont be admitted to a AQ conf if the BIG12 breaks up. They arnt wanted anywhere and they cant compete. They are too small a school. Hell we would have teh Pac16 id it wernet for them and CAL. Fucken hippies.
I like the super conf bc I think that would lead to a play off. Well no not really. Not enough time to have a playoff bc of basketball. The seasons would over lap.
DODGERS
$1.2B is a lot of cheese. But is it worth it? Do you hate Frank so much that you'd let the Chinese own your team?
Here is what people need to realize. We dont need a new owner. We need the right owner. Im cool with Frank. Im not jumping on the next guy with money. We need the right guy. And like I said before, does it even matter who owns the team? No one likes Frank, no one liked Fox, and chances are we wont like the new guy. If we werent in 3rd place would we even care if Frank owned the team even with his slut wife? No. No one cared in 08/09 when we went to the NLCS. NedCo just doesn't know how to spend money. He can trade but not buy. We need to implement this "No signing ex-Giants" rule. Thats fucked us a few times now.
Kershaw should win the Cy Young. I dont buy the "(Phillies pitcher) isnt as good as kershaw but he is pitching in more meaningful games" argument.
That has to be the dumbest shit I could hear. He has better stats where they count. The only stats worth anything when it comes to pitchers are ERA, WHIP, and Innings pitched. Kershaw leads in those categories. Leads in strike outs, BA against and WINS even though our offense sucks.
Should Kemp win the MVP.....I dont know. His numbers are above avg but they arnt out of this world. The numbers he is putting up this year arnt anywhere near Pujols or Howard numbers. Those two are just having less than AVG years.
Thats about it for now.
